Music the Fifth Element!

In many of my videos posted on you tube I end by saying that music is the fifth element. I know that many think that I am merely promoting myself and my channel. In this short vlog I will try to explain why I chose the name DJ 5th Element. Let's start by noting after deciding on my DJ moniker I then went to you tube and tried to obtain the name for my channel as " DJ 5th Element " but sad to say there already existed a user with that account name. So faced with the choice of selecting a new name or trying to create one that would allow me to remain as close to the original I had previously decided upon djfifth5element is the now known outcome. Now on to the reasons as to why that particular name was chosen and no it is not based on the movie The Fifth Element. It is a great movie and one of my personal favorites but it played no role in my decision. I will share with you those reasons by listing them in order of importance to the decision making process.
1. Dj or disc jockey is almost self explanatory, it is a title used to describe a job or function of an individual.
2. 5 or 5th, In asian philosophy the number five is the number of expansion. This stands to represent two
things for me on a personal level. one that I was entering a new phase of my life and two that it is a
field in which I wanted to expand and grow on many different levels.
3. Element, we are surround by the elements and are in constant flux and always adapting to the first four
elements. It is however the 5th element the spirit or energy force that abides in all living things and
provides not only the strength to endure the first four elements but the life energy to live in harmony
and bring forth music which in turn brings and gives us joy. music is the fifth element, it cannot be
seen or touched but it is always felt.
The final reason I will not give a number only because it might seem a bit silly but here goes...I drive a Honda Element which I which was manufactured in 2005, licensed and registered for use on the public highway in the fifth month of that year and paid for in full five years after initial purchase.
So there you have it DJ 5th Element or if you will DJ Music or DJ Energy. I hope this may have helped in understanding a bit about my choice of name for my DJ moniker.
Take care till next and don't forget ..
Music is the Fifth Element.

The road less traveled...

What does it mean to walk the road less traveled here, now in the 21st century..... I place before you for your examination and scrutiny these thoughts. To walk the road less traveled means to not  be connected to the world via telecommunications of any form. That means no telephones rotary or digital. No television, video games or computers. Social media would mean literally talking to your neighbors face to face not through face time. Speaking while using complete sentences as opposed to omg ic u wtf john, and if you understand what any of that means, then you my friend are no longer on the road less traveled. You like most of us are caught up in the shiny world of the internet, welcome.

I feel personally that this technology like most is here to help us attain a better life a more peaceful existence. There is however something which I believe was not anticipated and that is the speed at which this technology is growing and continues to grow. So quickly it is like trying to hold a glass of water with your bare hands. It is big numbers held in small bytes, massive power that can be folded into the palm of a teenage girls hand it is mind boggling power that may be able to cause great harm in small insidious ways.

But alas I speak as though these things live in an imaginary land and are only a vague pin points of energy in my minds eye, as though the possibility of such things happening are a near impossibility, that we as human beings and members of civilized society would never allow ourselves to be overrun or outsmarted by technology, computers or the internet. And you would be correct in your assumption after all we created this technology with the greatest computers on earth...our minds.

But sadly it has and is happening. We have allowed the corrosion of self via the internet. We judge our self worth by the number of friends we have on facebook and other such sites. We believe that it is normal or ok to allow that our family time be dictated to by our "smart" phones and computers. This is how technology is hurting us in small, subtle, insidious ways. But hope is not lost my friend there is still a silver lining behind that cloud, there is still a rainbow that we can all slide down to our pot of gold we can reclaim ourselves and our lives one byte at a time. We still have within us the power and ability to decide how much of our time is given up to smart phones and the like.

If you work in an office environment where you must use a computer for 8 or sometimes even 10 hours a day, make it a point to schedule how much time you spend on your computer at home . Set aside a specific amount of time to check your email and various electronic accounts. This way you are not losing countless hours of lost sleep surfing the web. Now let's talk about your phone, it is not necessary to answer each and every text right when you get them (emergencies are an exception) it is called a smart phone for a reason it has memory recall, it will save the message for a later time, it will not be lost you can retrieve it LATER.

So let's reclaim our lives and that of our families and society as a whole one byte at a time, let us use this  technology to better our lives not over take them. I will take my first step right now into that reality by signing out and turning off my computer and phone for the next eight hours because I can't type while I sleep. Good night and take care till next time.

What I Love About Video Blogging!

I love capturing visual bits of my life in pixelated form. To be able to retrieve and view how I may have felt on a particular day about any random subject. To be able to share with anyone who cares to take a peek even just for a short while a little bit of me and my view of the world that we live together as I see it. While I know that physically one day I will leave this world and that this journey must come to an end. I take solace in knowing that so long as the internet is alive and well and my accounts are not deleted or lost in a field of irrelevance. I shall continue to voice my opinions and show my love for life and the people in my life. To be able to share with individuals across the globe with no barrier of language, time or space. Through the lens of my camera I will have captured life, with my computer I will have edited out the parts that I found to be not colorful or vibrant enough. I will have removed from existance the parts that do not represent me as I should like to be known or remembered. And in my video blog or vlog no matter the title I will upload to the internet the pixelated me. This is what I love about video blogging, this is why I love to vlog. In the words of Vlogilicious...Vlog On!

london riots 2011

It is duly noted that this situation can happen at anytime and anywhere in the civilized world. With that being said, that this situation purportedly came about from the act of the London police fatally shooting a young man by the name of Mark Duggan and has escalated from a peaceful protest to the country being over run by thieves and hooligans is shameful. Shame on those that use the excuse that they are committing these acts in protest to what sadly happened to Mr. Duggan or their disdain for politics and politicians of the UK. Your taste for the disrespect you show not only for yourselves but the good people of the UK has no excuse it cannot be explained away as a show of solidarity against your oppressors or the political system that is currently in place. When the fires have been extinguished and the broken glass swept away the physical evidence of your acts wiped clean what is left behind is the thing that cannot be undone. That you have robbed your fellow country man of his security, his peace of mind that you his neighbor in your zeal for ill gotten goods in that moment had no regard for his well being that of his family let alone the country that you share.
You are not heroes with a cause. You are not justified in your actions. It is not your right to steal, loot, burn, beat and mug without consequence. You are however what civilized societies must not accept, tolerate or turn a blind eye to. If your actions go unpunished then the UK will have lost as a whole more than property but the the respect and trust of it's citizens that this would not be allowed to happen again to the good hard working citizens of it's country.
To the good people of the UK stand up and together, take back your country from these hooligans and cowards that hide behind of masks to take from you what is not theirs to take.
My heart goes out to the family of Mark Duggan in your time of sadness. I am very sorry for your loss.
